Good day all the District has just acquired a set of six Motorola XNTiD hand held Radios. These are available for Groups and Sections to borrow to assist with their events and activities. They are a useful addition to our safety equipment.
· They are licence free and anyone can operate them. · They have a range up to 10Km on open ground (more likely to be 3 to 5Km on the moors) and 1Km in built up areas. · They are built to military standards and are virtually indestructible. · Battery life should be around 8 to 10 hours. · They have 8 available channels. · They have voice scrambling on the working channel (channel 4) which prevents anyone outside these 6 handsets from listening in.
They can be used by our sailors to prepare for their VHF Licence Course. I am looking at providing an alternative learning programme for the Scout Communications Badge. This will involve using these radios to learn radio procedures, phonetics. emergency procedures etc. I am happy to assist with this training.
If anyone wishes to borrow these please drop me a line. Yours in Scouting John John Hopkins Assistant District Commissioner (Adult Training) |
