S.A.S. Explorer Scout Unit |

The local S.A.S. Explorer Scout Unit from the three towns recently visited the national Scout Outdoor Activity Centre at Lochgoilhead where they took part in  canoeing, archery, mountain biking, aerial walkways and pot holing. The Scouts had a great time trying these activities and even the weather was kind for them. They hope to return there in early March to try out a new Explorer Scout programme that is currently being planned by the centre. The Unit also recently took part in the annual Indoor Games and Quiz night that took place at Ardrossan Scout hut with teams from all over North Ayrshire taking part. They were successful in winning the competition narrowly beating teams from Beith and Boutriehill. The Unit plans to celebrate Christmas with an evening go-karting at the centre in Stevenston. The Unit meet at Ardrossan Scout Hut, Kilmeny Terrace every Wednesday night at 7.15pm and have limited vacancies for young persons aged between 14 and 18 years of age. Lochgoil March 2011 |

Scouts from the three towns led by the local Explorer Scout Unit recently
attended at the national Scout outdoor centre at Lochgoilhead so that the scouts
could be trained on canoes and kayaks whilst their leaders were trained on
powerboats. These courses took place over two weekends in March and April this
year. At the end of the course seven Scouts were awarded their Two Star Canoe /
Kayak certificates and two leaders cmpleted the national powerboat course. Many
thanks go to the Awards for All Lottery who sponsored the persons taking part in
these courses. The Scouts and leaders are looking forward to showing off their
hard earned skills over the next few months.

Scouts from Saltcoats and Explorer Scouts from the 3 Towns S.A.S. Unit recently attended at the national Scout Outdoor Centre where they took part in kayaking,climbing, archery, aerial assault course and mountain biking. The weather was exceptionally good and the Scouts had a great time.

SAS Unit Sailing |

The SAS Explorer Unit recently completed 2 weekends in October and November at the National Scout Outward Bound Centre at Lochgoilhead where they were successful in completing their Sailing Certificates and because of the unusually good weather their Power Boat Certificates as well.This was only possible due to the grant from the Lottery Fund. They hope to return in 2010 and complete their canoeing certificates as well.

Saltcoats, Ardrossan and Stevenston Explorer Scout Unit.
The SAS Unit has vacancies at present. Any person aged between 14 and 18 years of age can join. They meet at Ardrossan Scout Hut in Kilmeny Terrace on a Wednesday night between 1925 and 2115 hours. Any person interested in joining should contact Alastair Dodds Scout Leader (01294 550821)
