SAS Unit at Lochgoilhead Print

This scout unit based in the three towns recently attended the national Scout outdoor activity centre at Lochgoilhead where they took part in several outward bound style activities including kayaking, high wire assault course, archery, raft building, abseiling and hiking. This visit was sponsored by the Awards for All Lottery Fund.

Whilst they were there the Scouts set a new record in building the biggest raft ever completed at the centre. The raft when completed carried all 8 of the Scouts and leaders who had built it from barrels, wooden spars and rope.

The new high wire assault course was particularly enjoyed by the Scouts who had never tried this form of activity before.

The archery was won by their leader but he was made to pay for that mistake by paying a forfeit at dinner that night.

The abseiling was particularly enjoyed by the Scouts not just for the excitement of the activity but for the great views from the top of the cliff looking over Lochgoilhead.

The Unit closed in May due to school exams but will be reopening on the first Wednesday in June at 7.15 pm at the Scout Hut in Kilmeny Terrace, Ardrossan. The Unit is currently recruiting for new members from any person aged between 14 and 18 years of age. Any person interested in joining should contact Alastair Dodds 01294 550821.

The Unit already has planned an exciting programme for the new session including taking part in a District camp, sailing at Lochgoilhead and an indoors games night with other Explorer Scouts from North Ayrshire.
