Scouts from Saltcoats and Explorer Scouts from the 3 Towns S.A.S. Unit recently attended at the national Scout Outdoor Centre where they took part in kayaking,climbing, archery, aerial assault course and mountain biking. The weather was exceptionally good and the Scouts had a great time.
The S.A.S. Explorer Scout Unit based in the 3 towns were granted money from the Awards for All Lottery so that they can take part in a two part kayaking training course whilst their leaders will be taking part in a two part power boat training course. This could not have happened without the lottery grant!
The Explorer Scout Section (14 -18 years old) have a full programme of events planned from now until May 2011. These events include Beach barbecue night held in August at Ardrossan, five-a-side football competition held in September in Largs and won by Beith Explorer Unit, Indoor Games and Quiz night in November at Ardrossan where the S.A.S. Explorer Unit defend their title, a Brass Monkey Camp where they camp at Everton Scout Campsite near Inverkip in January, a swimming gala to be held in Largs in February, Geocashing (treasurer hunt style competition using GPS compasses) in March and First Aid Training in April.
