Update on Cub Scout and Scout Activity Badges

Gilwell have issued a short update on changes to the requirements for the Cub Scout and Scout Athlete activity badges, including Athlete Plus.

They are now seeking member’s comments and feedback.

Please can all Cub Scout Leaders read this article and co-ordinate feedback to the email address listed so that we can participate fully in the consultation.

Bring your Sixers and Leaders to a skills and leadership training weekend camp at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre from the 2nd - 4th September 2011.

This camp is in direct response to the questionnaire sent out in the autumn where Leaders asked for more opportunities to develop their own skills for running Pack meetings including activities, effective use of Young leaders, managing behaviour and Sixers Forums.

An action packed weekend is planned for both Sixers and Leaders - with the added bonus that all meals and washing up will be done for you!  All you have to do is enjoy yourselves.

Places are limited so please reserve yours as soon as possible before the closing date of 31st May.  Bookings will be taken using the event booking form. First come first served, so please do not delay.

The Cub Scout Scottish Challenge Badge aims to increase the awareness among Cub Scouts of their Scottish heritage though a variety of activities under six headings: Community, Fitness, Creative, Global, Outdoor and Adventure, and Beliefs and Attitudes.

Scottish-specific activities which Cubs will be able to take part in to help towards attaining the badge are walking a distance equivalent to the height of Ben Nevis, cooking and serving a traditional Scottish meal, visiting and reporting back on trips to National Trust for Scotland or Historic Scotland sites and designing materials to promote their local area.{phocadownload view=file|id=33|text=Cub Scout Scottish Challenge Badge|target=s}

Congratulations to Scott from the Thursday pack of the 19th Ayrshire (Kilwinning), who was
chosen as the winner of the District Cub Halloween Competition.   He is seen here in the
winning costume and then receiving his prize from Lizann Shuttleton.

Our Regional Commissioner Duncan Riddell had a very difficult job choosing the winner from
so many great costumes.
Thanks to all packs who participated and thanks also to Duncan for judging the competition.

On Thursday 1st October 2009, Ben & Fraser (Cubs at the 32nd Ayrshire Lamlash pack), received their Chief Scout's Silver Award.  The pack had invited friends & family to come and join them at their meeting that evening to participate in the presentation.
Ben & Fraser both showed exceptional commitment to achieve this award and it was nice to share the special occasion with the other cubs and the assembled guests.  After the boys had received their awards there was a celebration cake and a last ogi ogi ogi for the boys, who now will move up to Scouts.

Seeing the boys being presented with their award has really spurred some of the other Cubs on to work towards gaining all their challenge badges so they too can get their Chief Scout's Silver Award.  More photographs of the evening are on the District Photo site
